5 Years...

December 14, 2003. Fiance and I joined some mutual friends on a ski trip. We ditched our friends for a few runs and during the ride up on the chair lift, he asked me out.

December 14, 2007. Fiance proposed!

December 14, 2008. 5 years later, we are 5 months away from saying " I do."



For our 5-year anniversary, we did our own "Alumni night." We both wore our alumni sweatshirts and then re-created our first date. It was casual, relaxed, and lots of fun. Just what I needed in this hectic Christmas season!

Update

I let my wedding coordinator know that I'm interested in half-backs + sashes. She is out garnering bids for me. YES! I love having her do the "boring" legwork for me. :-) Thanks for all your help with that decision!

I had a ukulele musician suggested as reception entertainment. I thought why not? I'll hear him out. I got the demo and laughed so hard! We actually could not make it through an entire song it was so wrong for us. The next time I have a luau, absolutely I'll call him. Note to self: don't follow any more wacky suggestions!


The church pastor approved our vows. However, we are still in negotiations regarding the order of service and which pastor gets to do what. Why didn't any of you warn me that this would be the hardest part of getting married? Sheesh. I'm about done with it, I'm to the point where I'm not sure if it's important enough to push or if we should just let it be. I think I'll let Fiance take the reins over completely on this one for now...

Got a coupon in the mail for the suits we want to rent for the guys. Score! Fiance now has until Saturday to get his patootie into the shop and put the deposit down--we'll see if he comes through.


Rehersal dinner is still up in the air. We think we know where we want it, but there are still some roadblocks. 1) Cost and who's paying for it? 2) There's no free and handicapped parking nearby. 3) they don't have a party room per se, just a back area with a half-wall. 4)It's a pub--kids are allowed in, but it's VERY noisy. BUT, it's where we had our first date and it's "our place." So, we'll see.

In no particular order:

1) My favorite 'kid' cereal is General Mills' Golden Grahams. My favorite 'adult' cereal is Post Honey Bunches Of Oats because it tastes like 'kid' cereal. Although, topped with vanilla soymilk, any cereal tastes sweeter!


2) I am a frequent returner. Yes. I buy things that I *think* I like, get them home, ignore them for a few days and then happily return them. Most places refund in cash (if < $50) instead of putting it back on debit---so then I have "spending" money. Fiance HATES this habit of mine! I'm sure Dave Ramsey does too.

3) I'm an avid reader when I have the time. I will stay up all night, ignore meals, phone calls, house work, etc when I have a good book under my nose. I just finished reading When Men Become Gods about fundamentalist Mormon Warren Jeffs and the culture of child abuse in that sect. It was fascinating...and extremely sad! I now want to read Under the Banner of Heaven, Stolen Innocence, Escape, and His Favorite Wife.

4) I've had the "Baby Bug" since I was probably 13. I can't wait to be a Mommie and have children. This is probably a huge reason as to why I became a NICU nurse. I can enjoy other people's babies, and then go home!

5) I had open-heart surgery when I was 3. I was born with an Atrial Septal Defect that did not close on it's own. I now have a 9 inch scar down the middle of my chest that I am VERY proud of. My parents gave me to option of plastic surgery to remove the scar when I was 16 and I opted to leave my body as it is. Without that beautiful scar, there is a good chance I wouldn't be here right now.

6) Even though it is sort of "grandma" my current favorite scent is Velvet Tuberose from Bath & Body Works. Yummy!

Koobface

Anyone else dumb enough to get the "Koobface" virus that is currently attacking Facebook?

You know the one that comes from a friend you barely talk to anymore who sends you a funny message with a link? A link that facebook warns you about before linking you over..."Are you sure you really want to exit facebook?"

And then the mis-spelling of "YouTube" that yours truly didn't notice.

Yeah. That one. Stupid Koobface. You got me.

Hopefully not you too.

One saving grace is that my Norton caught it! (I'm a McAfee girl, so didn't have much faith that Norton would catch it.)

However my computer is still acting funny--posting may be more sporadic than usual...

Chair Decor

Our Reception venue has basic blue-gray banquet chairs. They're not terrible, but not fabulous either.


We thought about renting Chiavari chairs or the wooden folding chairs for a more 'nautical' look, but I just can't stomach spending $12 per chair.


I don't love the look of the traditional white/ivory banquet chair covers. They look like a bunch of ghosts! Plus they twist and discumbobulate as you move in the chair.



We've thought about doing half chair covers (which cover just the back of the chair), they are easily found for folding chairs. I found one website that rents half-backs for banquet chairs (althought they have no pictures)Dress My Chair.


Making our own half covers is an option, albeit a very time consuming one. Plus, I just want to rent them, not own them.

We've toyed with just renting sashes, for about $0.75 each. We could buy the sashes here for $1.75 each and make excess sashes into table runners in much the same fashion as The Pissed Off Bride plans to do.

Although I can't find any pictures of banquet chairs with just a sash on them, it could be pretty (but I'm not sure!). We'd use a sash similar to this, but in royal blue. Thoughts?
